School has holidays, but studying doesn’t have. Hello there! Welcome to Ken's study journey train. Today, I am going to talk about the first week of my IELTS study journey during the summer vacation.

The first week of my IELTS study journey during the summer vacation was over. I had had the Python programming lesson before I started to have IELTS lessons.

I behave well during the lessons, listening and taking notes carefully. Then, I finish my homework on time.

As I am an excellent student, I have my own study strategy and routine, so I can alleviate my burden during the study journey.

Do you know what happened during the journey and where I have the lessons? Follow me!

What is IELTS exam?

IELTS is shorted by International English Language Testing System, which is an English exam built and managed by Cambridge English Language Assessment and British Council.

It contains 4 parts: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

Our students are required to take an IELTS exam or a TOEFL exam because applying for a university or college we want requires one of their scores.

What is my IELTS course and what do I learn?

My IELTS course is provided by New Oriental Education, which provides high-quality lessons for IELTS and TOEFL exams and other English courses.

There are 4 teachers in my class, each of which teaches different parts because different teachers have different advantages.

My course is one-to-one. Unlike normal classes with all-day courses, I only need to stay at the school from 2 to 6 hours. I have 1 or 2 lessons every day. There are 2 hours in a lesson.

Meanwhile, all of my teachers are nice even if the contents are difficult and my correct rate is low. They analyze about my problems patiently and give me some suggestions, so I can make a big improvement.

They don’t let me answer any IELTS questions and do practices first, but they teach me some great ways to answer different kinds of questions. Then, I can answer the associated questions and do some practices well.

English Vocabulary Tasks

I am required to remember some new English words every single day, some of which come from vocabulary books given by my teachers, and others are based on the words I cannot understand.

I used to remember 100 English words on a daily basis, but I have recently downgraded my goal (approximately 40-60 words every day) because I want to remember them firmly, but not too much.

Relaxation during the journey

I always feel relaxed for this course, unlike preparing for a difficult entrance exam in SCIE with massive pressure. So, I have a lot of time to do my own tasks after finishing my homework, including but not limited to: i. chatting with my friends; ii. writing my blog articles; iii. play sports.

There is a one-day break between lessons for several days (6-7 days approximately), where I can travel to some places I want in Guangzhou, the city I live in, like Baiyun Mountain, Canton Tower, Yuexiu Park, Zhujiang New Town, etc.

How I behave well and get good results?

I always listen and take notes carefully during the lesson, which can let me remember important knowledge points firmly.

Meanwhile, I already have this habit, so I always can get excellent results from any of my lessons. Not only do I take excellent notes during my IELTS lessons, but also I do that in other lesson.

Furthermore, I had Python programming lessons when the summer vacation starts. My notes have been featured and shared by my teacher because of the easy-read format and precise text.

Where I have the lessons?

I have lessons in Victory Plaza (维多利广场), a building in Guangzhou downtown, which is adjacent to Guangzhou Books Center (广州购书中心) and Grandbuy shopping mall (广百百货) and it is near an underground station: Tiyu Xilu (体育西路, Tianhe Sports Road West) with Line 1 (1|14) and Line 3 (3|11).

However, I usually take shuttle buses in Phoenix City because I live in it, which travels between the traffic center in Phoenix City and Hongfa Mansion (宏发大厦) near the place I have lessons. It is very fast and convenient, and it isn’t too expensive.

  1. Be aware of the directions when taking the metro line 3 (Airport North (机场北, Terminal 2) or Tianhe Coach Terminal (天河客运站)) on platform 4 in Tiyu Xilu (Tianhe Sports Road West) station. The trains to the Airport direction are indicated as green on the TV screen, like the express train in line 14.
These are the recent service upgrades in Guangzhou Metro Line 3, so people do not need to change the train to Airport North in Tiyu Xilu station.
  2. I will post an article about how to ride the shuttle buses in Phoenix City, Guangzhou (an English tutorial) on my website later.
