Hello there! My name is Ken and I am a Chinese senior high top student in Guangdong Country Garden School. Welcome to Ken's Study Journey website and blog! Today, I am going to talk about my study plan and schedule of summer vacation 2021.
The IGCSE grade was ended and I will cross a bridge to AS and A Level. During the gap, I still have many study tasks to do.
I still need to attend IELTS lessons to improve my band scores and attend an Oxbridge Plus summer school in my school campus to gain similar experience to students who are going to apply for Oxford or Cambridge.
At the end of the vacation, I will need to have an IELTS exam again and bicycle riding training for the school activity later on.
Because we have learned some knowledge of AS and A Level, we will still have homework to do. As I have excellent study tips and self-management skills, I can allocate my time correctly and plan for the holiday.
The summer vacation is coming. It's still time to study. Don't let other top students overtake you.
I talked a lot about Apple products in my articles before, so I will move back to studying in my later articles.
There are 4 main stages during my vacation.
|Jul. 8 to Jul. 11||Take a rest and relax|
|Jul. 11 to Jul. 17||Oxbridge summer school|
|Jul. 17 to Jul. 26||Programming lessons|
|Jul. 27 to Aug. 26||IELTS lessons and IELTS exam|
July 8 - Take a Rest and Relax
The semester ends in the afternoon at July 8. After that, it will be a relax time.
We studied and worked so hard before the Cambridge IGCSE exam, revising every single knowledge point and practising a stack of past papers.
Taking a rest is essential while studying. Otherwise, the study efficiency will decrease due to tiredness. Before going to Oxbridge summer school and attending lessons during the rest of the vacation, I will have some time to relax.
By the way, I can also make my new website to improve visitor's experience and provide more study tips and resources for you.
New features on my new website 6.0:
- Audio articles (available in English only, downloadable .mp3 format)
- Free knowledge explanation (similar to paid past papers explanation on Frank's C(A)IE Workshop)
- Polite, clear and understandable language
- New attractive interface
- Faster loading speed with low latency
- More free resources download
- Apple-style design and interface (rounded rectangles)
July 12 - Oxbridge Summer School
As I enrolled on the Oxbridge Plus program in my school with very high scores, I can go to a summer school in my school campus to enjoy a life similar to students who are going to apply for Oxford or Cambridge.
The schedule of it is very similar to my normal daily school routine. It is also as strict as when I attend lessons there to ensure everyone can achieve the best goal.
Only about 20 to 30 top students in my school can join in, so we can study better and effectively together and I do not need to worry about being interfered with by other students.
After that, I will realise that how hard the work that a student who is going to apply for universities is.
July 17 - Programming Lessons
After summer school, I need to attend programming lessons in my programming school, TCTM, where I usually attend it on Saturday afternoon.
We learned Python for a year, but we started to learn how to make Android and even iOS apps using NodeJS, Vue, MintUI, and web programming languages with Google Chrome and Visual Studio Code.
I usually discuss some programming problems with other top students in my class. One of my classmates also made his website called: A Letter for the Future (给未来写封信).
July 27 - IELTS Lessons and Exam
My IELTS band scores are very close or achieved 7.0, as tested on mock exams in my school or IELTS School (New Oriental), except for speaking.
In order to satisfy some basic requirements of universities and colleges, I need to make my IELTS scores better and better. So, I need to continue to attend IELTS lessons in my IELTS School - New Oriental, like last year.
My final goal is Band 7.5, 7.0 per component. This is the requirement of the University of Cambridge. However, I need to improve my scores step by step. So, my goal for the next exam is 7.0, 6.5 per component.
Recently, my school, GCGS, is going to open its Oxbridge College which uses English completely on not only lessons but also management. It requires a Band 7.0 or higher IELTS score.
Although I failed to enter SCIE, Shenzhen College of International Education, and enjoy an opportunity of freedom, I still have a chance to enjoy a completely English environment provided by GCGS. So, I need to cherish this opportunity to enjoy a better studying environment.
Note: The pandemic in the city where I live is mitigated, so I will be able to go to my IELTS School (New Oriental) and programming school (TCTM) to attend real offline lessons instead of online lessons at home.
As I told in an article about my weekend routine last year, the classrooms of my IELTS school are situated on the 34th floor in a building that is very tall, so I can enjoy studying in the sky.
My Study Plan during the Vacation
My study plan during the summer vacation is exactly the same of my study plan during the weekends.
I remember 40 English words using Quizlet every day, except for when I will be in the summer school that restricts phones and computers.
I also read English books for at least 45 minutes and 1 chapter every day. This can improve my reading skills and increase knowledge acquisition furthermore.
According to my routine before a vacation, I usually prepare a homework folder with my logo and my website on the cover.
From now on, I have started to self-study knowledge of some subjects such as Mathematics (A2, 9709) and Computer Science (9618). This is because my IELTS scores are very close to my goals, which means that my basic tasks will be done soon.
Top students usually self-study and preview knowledge using coursebooks and/or online resources in their free time.
We can study further after completing basic tasks (e.g. achieving maximum grades for each subject studying in the school). This can achieve a basic understanding before attending the courses.
You do not need to always keep on studying. This can be done just using your free time which is enough for you. Over-studying can lead to tiredness and hence study efficiency will decrease.
Don't worry if you cannot understand a difficult knowledge point. You can think about it in your free time - even if you are walking, or ask teachers for help.
In addition, I will keep discovering and applying IGCSE and some AS knowledge in real life. They will also be shared if I discover them.
Introducing Ken's Study Planner
Since February 2021, I made my Ken's Study Planner in my hometown to manage my study tasks more easily. However, it was not opened for registration to the public.
Recently, along with iOS/iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey beta, I opened it for registration to the public, so everyone can sign up for an account and use my study planner to plan for your study journey easily.
It has several features, such as daily goals checklist, projects and events manager, morning and evening routine.
All parts of my website and Ken's Study Planner, including UI design, programming code and servers, are made by myself.
In large software companies, some people do UI design and other people do programming and/or servers. This is called division of labour (economics knowledge).
Since 2021, 95% of my study tools are digitalised, except for notebooks and study planner booklet used in my school campus.
Hopefully, I will make 100% of them digitalised after going to universities in the UK in 2023. This is because no one will restrict or ban electronic devices in universities.
My Holidays Study Plans and Routines in the Past
In the past, I also usually write articles about my study plans and routines for summer and winter vacations between 2019 and 2021.
You can click on the links to see my previous study plans and routines:
- 2019 Summer Vacation, going to United Kingdom summer camp
- 2020 Winter Vacation, changed due to Covid-19 pandemic later
My website was firstly established in February 2019. I needed to attend IELTS lessons in 2020 summer and there was an urgent event in my family in 2021 winter. Hence, there were no articles for 2019 winter, 2020 summer and 2021 winter vacations.
Study Effectively using Apple Products
As you can see at the bottom of the image placed at the top of this article, I always use Apple products to improve my study efficiency.
As an A Level student with massive study tasks, I need to shorten my time on studying and operating my devices to improve my scores quickly. For example, I don't want to let the time for transferring files between my home PC and my laptop be longer.
Since 2021, I have started to use Apple ecosystem completely due to the reformation of my study strategy. Most of the features of Apple are very useful to me.

- Learn more about how does Apple improve my study efficiency
This is the end of the article. Hope you can study better, try your best and get better results!
