Hello there! My name is Ken and I am an A Level student. Welcome to Ken's Study Journey website and blog! Today, I am going to talk about a trip in Lianzhou, Guangdong, China during the winter vacation that was unplanned.

Recently, I travelled to Lianzhou, China but it was unplanned. During the trip, I learned a new culture of Yao nation (瑶族) and discovered some knowledge.

Lianzhou is an area in Qingyuan, Guangdong, China. There is also a small area called Liannan (South Lianzhou) that is Yao nation.

My family organised this trip because my parents and their friends wanted to travel recently. Meanwhile, a catastrophe happened in my family at the end of the semester, so I was required to go back to my hometown immediately and I could not have lessons at the start of winter vacation.

During the whole trip, I seldom finish my homework because I felt tired after watching the Spring Festival Gala on TV during the Spring Festival. However, I always remember English words using Quizlet in my free time.

I actually went on a planned trip in Meizhou and Chaozhou during the China National Day last year (2020), which is similar to this trip.

Note: This article may contain information related to China nations and their cultures. They may be inaccurate. I cannot guarantee that all of the information on my website and blog is correct.

Day 1: Depart

The start of this trip was on February 12, 2021s s Friday.

After having lunch in the morning during the Spring Festival, I was told that we need to travel to Lianzhou. I didn't know why at first and I didn't realise that this was an unplanned trip.

On 12:00 PM, we packed up our luggage and bag quickly and departed to Lianzhou. It took 4 hours to go there.

I listened to Podcasts and TED Talks on the car with my AirPods Pro with noise cancellation. This helped me to utilise my spare time and let me improve my English listening and comprehension skills.

After arrival, we lived in the Pi Hotel. It was named as it was established on March 14, 2015.

Related Knowledge

I am going to tell a mathematics knowledge that is circular constant - Pi.

Pi is an irrational number, but we usually remember its first 100 to 200 digits. It is usually used to calculate the perimeter and area of a circle.

I can remember its first 100 digits: 3.14159 26535 89793 23846 26433 83279 50288 41971 69399 37510 58209 74944 59230 78164 06286 20899 86280 34825 34211 70679 ...

We had dinner until 10:00 PM, so I could not do my homework after that.

Day 2: Thousand-year Yao Village in Liannan

I got up at 7:30 AM, but I still feel tired, so I adjusted my alarm clock to 8:00 AM for the third day.

There are only 2 breakfast canteens beside the hotel because many of the places are closed for celebrating the Spring Festival.

I ate some Chinese traditional food such as Siu Mai (烧卖) for the breakfast.

Tip

I always publish photos on social media, such as WeChat Moments, Instagram and Facebook (personal account) while travelling. You can get my photos in real time after following my social media.

If you are using this website on a computer, you can find my social media on the right sidebar.

After breakfast, we went to Thousand-year Yao Village in Liannan. The journey took 40 minutes, so I listened about 2 TED Talks in the highway.

Did you know?

China has 56 nations. Different nations have different cultures such as clothes and activities.

Han nation (汉族) is the largest one which has the most of the people in China (about 91.5%). All other nations are called minority nations.

For example, I am Molao nation (仫佬族) and my hometown are being surrounded by people that are Molao nation (i. e. I am one of the local people in my hometown).

Moreover, many countries with people in different nations have tourism attractions, including my hometown, inheriting and letting people to explore their cultures.

Morning: Exploring History and Climbing Mountain

When I enter the village, I can immediately see that there were many ancient houses and pathways, being surrounded by the green mountains.

I climbed the mountain throughout the pathway made by stones, accumulating the steps count on my iPhone.

The scenery was beautiful and I learned about the history of roads and houses there.

After arriving at the zenith of the mountain, I went down by another path. By the way, we ate lunch halfway because it was 2:00 PM when I was hungry.

In addition, I bought some souvenirs about the ancient history of Yao nation, such as the models of ancient tools.

Tip

Remember to buy some souvenirs while travelling. This is important because we can review the trips happened in the past later on.

Afternoon: Watching a Performance by Local People

After lunch, we immediately went to the theatre to watch a performance by local people (Yao nation).

It showed a traditional dance with some equipments such as drums and leaves, singing songs in different forms.

Meanwhile, there was an interactive part during the show, in which people that are willing to can go to the stage to chat with the actresses.

More importantly, all of the actresses always wear their symbolised uniforms* that represent the local culture.

* Note: I didn't get and wear the clothes of that nation during the whole trip.

This is one of the local cultures of Yao nation, so I learned some cultures of the culture there.

Day 3: Lianzhou Underground River

On this day, I went to Lianzhou Underground River, where I can enjoy the colourful and beautiful scenery made by the natural stones and colourful lights.

We sat on a boat that flows through a river in a cave in the stones.

There are many different kinds of rocks and bridges with different dimensions, shapes, colours and symbols. Different rocks represent different things in ancient times.

It is a hazard to walk on the bridges because they are very high above the river and very narrow. So, I need to be very careful while walking on the bridges and taking photos on it.

This is the last day of the trip. After that, we went back to Guangzhou to continue my lessons.

Knowledge I Discovered during the Trip

I discovered some knowledge throughout the trip for a number of subjects, such as physics and chemistry.

Related Knowledge

Now, I am going to tell you a physics knowledge that I discovered while climbing the mountain on the second day.

There is a work done while climbing the mountain to overcome gravity. The formula for calculating it is: W=mgh.

Also, it can convert chemical energy in the body into kinetic energy, gravitational potential energy, and heat energy.

Related Knowledge

After that, I immediately discovered a chemistry knowledge.

There is a beautiful view beside the pathway. The mountain consists of many green plants.

These plants absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) and release oxygen (O2) by photosynthesis. So, I can breath in the fresh air right there.

Related Knowledge

I also discovered another chemistry knowledge related to the rocks inthe underground river.

The rocks are made of CaCO3, which forms Ca(HCO3)2 when there are carbon dioxide and water.

Also, Ca(HCO3)2 decomposes back easily, so it is a reversible reaction.

My Feelings

I was happy with the journey although it was unplanned and interrupted my normal study routine.

I learned and enjoyed some culture in Yao nation. The performance by the local people were awesome.

Also, I enjoyed the beautiful scenery, relaxed, and accumulated the steps count on my iPhone. More importantly, climbing mountains is another form of taking exercise.

https://www.kenstudyjourney.com/zh-cn/great-study-habits/discover-knowledge/
