Ken’s Study Journey is Non-profit and Non-commercial, Focusing on Inventions and Technical Research

Simply Speaking

YouTube recently started banning ad-blockers. This may seriously affect the user experience of Ken’s Study Journey channel.

Most other websites and channels are mainly for earning money, but Ken’s Study Journey is non-profit and non-commercial.

Ken’s Study Journey YouTube channel will no longer post new content from now on.

But Ken’s Study Journey is not only a website! It is also my biggest personal project where I do my technical research (e.g. IPv6, HTTP/2).

Dear students, visitors and fans,

Thanks for choosing and using Ken’s Study Journey services!

I regret to inform users, fans and visitors that the Ken’s Study Journey YouTube channel will be discontinued from now on.

Since YouTube (and some other Google products) recently started banning ad-blockers, it may seriously affect the user experience of Ken’s Study Journey channel.

- Instead, more users may watch my videos/vlogs on Ken’s Study Journey website (kenstudyjourney.cn/vlogs) (officially copied content for equality) to avoid ads.

Unlike most other websites and channels (including most YouTube channels by university students) mainly for earning money, Ken’s Study Journey is non-profit and non-commercial (rare exceptions like Wikipedia).

Ken’s Study Journey services (including the main website and Ken’s Study Planner) do not include ads and do not ban ad-blockers, according to the Terms of Service (Section 11):

“You are allowed to use an ad-blocker on your browsers and devices while using my services.”

Instead, Ken’s Study Journey is not only a content-sharing website and an online tool but also my research project. I can do my interesting technical research with some self-developed technologies behind servers.

This is also why Ken’s Study Journey has many servers and refrains from using third-party services (for my technical research and experiments).

Moreover, Ken’s Study Journey content is usually personal inventions (opinion-based; nearly 100% original and creative content) rather than research-based.

No new content will be posted to Ken’s Study Journey YouTube channel and its social link will be removed from the website soon. However, previous content may remain on the channel.

Ken’s Study Journey will also reduce expenditure on environmental decorations from now on (unlike other commercial YouTube channels).

However, the Ken’s Study Journey main website (including new content) and Ken’s Study Planner services will continue to operate as usual.

Ken’s Study Journey will continue to post photos on both the official website (kenstudyjourney.cn/photos) and Instagram.

Ken’s Study Journey reminds users again that, to promote equality, all content posted on its accounts on third-party platforms, including YouTube videos and Instagram photos, will be copied and displayed on the Ken’s Study Journey website since March 2023.

Technologies Researched/Invented/Used by Ken’s Study Journey

Some technologies are also used for the EPQ project (A*; 27/28).

Why Ken’s Study Journey Refrains from using Third-party Platforms?

Unlike most other websites, apps, programmers and developers majorly using third-party platforms and embedded modules (dependencies) for convenience, Ken’s Study Journey has the opposite view (not including third-party APIs) focusing on research for the following reasons:

  1. Each third-party platform may have its own rules and policies and may be difficult to get used to.
  2. The policies (on third-party platforms) can be changed at any time (with/without notice).
  3. Third-party platforms may limit the number of views to a user's content (which may include fans/followers).
  4. Ken’s Study Journey is non-profit and non-commercial (also focusing on technical research), while some third-party platforms may insert ads for users to maintain its free services.
  5. I tend to self-research the basic principles (i.e. how it works; e.g. algorithms, programming logic) of the modules behind it.

- This will develop my skills in figuring out technical logic.

Thanks for your understanding, helping students enhance user experience. You can contact me for any questions and suggestions.

  • Google (including Chrome, Play Store and YouTube) has recently started banning ad-blockers in recent months for revenue.
  • Twitter (X) limited the number of views to prevent data scraping for training the AI around July 2023.
  • Ken’s Study Journey has banned users from visiting the website and using its services via Tor (the Dark Web) since 1 May 2023 to enhance Internet security.
